Privacy & Data

This page explains, in plain terms, what happens to information about you when you read Documentaries & Lectures. The short answer is: very little. The site is a collection of static pages. It has no user accounts, no comment system, no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools.

Last updated: October 2026.

Who is responsible

The magazine is run by the small editorial team described on Meet the Masthead. For any privacy question or request, write to inbox@documentaries-lectures.com.

What we do not collect

  • We do not use analytics, visitor counters or heatmaps.
  • We do not show adverts or load advertising networks.
  • We do not embed social media trackers or "like" buttons that report back to other companies.
  • We do not build profiles of readers or sell, rent or trade any data.

Your cookie-banner choice

When you first visit, a small notice asks whether you are happy with the way the site stores information. Whatever you choose is saved in your own browser's local storage so that the notice does not reappear on every page. That single entry never leaves your device and is not sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing the stored data for this site in your browser settings. More detail is on What Your Browser Keeps.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the pages are delivered by a hosting provider whose servers automatically record basic technical information when a page is requested. This typically includes the IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the browser type and the referring address. These logs exist to keep the service running and secure, for example to detect abuse or fix faults. We do not combine them with other information or use them to identify readers, and they are kept only for a limited period set by the provider.

When you email us

An email to the team gives us your address, any name you sign with and the contents of your note. We use this only to read and answer your note, and to correct an article if you have pointed out a mistake. We keep messages for as long as the conversation is useful and then delete them, unless we need to keep a short record of a correction. The contact form on our Write to Us page simply opens your own email program, so nothing is sent through the website itself.

Legal basis

Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, server logs rest on our legitimate interest in running a secure website, and email correspondence rests on our legitimate interest in answering messages you chose to send.

Your rights

Data protection rules differ between countries, but readers commonly have these rights:

  • to find out whether we hold anything about you, and to get a copy of it;
  • to have mistakes in that information fixed;
  • to have it erased;
  • to limit our use of it, or to object to that use altogether;
  • to receive it in a common file format you can take elsewhere;
  • to raise a complaint with your national data protection regulator.

Send any such request to the inbox named near the top of this page. We will answer as promptly as we can and may ask a question to confirm the request is genuinely yours.

Links within articles

A number of our articles point readers towards pages elsewhere on the web. When you follow one of those, their own privacy policies apply, and we have no control over what they collect.

Changes

If the way the site works changes, for instance if we ever added a new feature that handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. The general rules for using the site are on Website Terms.
